The Yamuna Expressway, a vital corridor connecting Greater Noida to Agra, is set to see an increase in toll charges. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has submitted a proposal to revise the toll rates, citing operational and maintenance costs.
Proposed Toll Hike Details
According to sources, the proposal suggests an increase of approximately 10-12% in the current toll rates. For cars, the one-way toll may rise from the current Rs. 255 to around Rs. 285, while the round trip could increase from Rs. 405 to Rs. 450. For buses and trucks, the hike is expected to be proportional.
Reason for the Increase
The authority has cited rising expenses for maintenance, security, and operations as the primary reason for the proposed hike. The Yamuna Expressway, which spans 165 km, requires regular upkeep to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.
When Will the New Rates Apply?
The proposal has been submitted to the state government for approval. Once approved, the new toll rates will be implemented after a public notice period. Commuters can expect the changes to take effect within the next few months.
Impact on Commuters
Regular commuters, especially those traveling between Delhi-NCR and Agra, will feel the pinch. However, the authority assures that the hike is necessary to maintain the expressway's quality and safety standards.
