Kolkata-based Anmol Industries Ltd, the fourth largest manufacturer in India's biscuits and bakery industry, is pivoting its focus toward urban markets to elevate its turnover beyond the current Rs 2,000 crore in the coming years. The company's Bengal market currently accounts for approximately 20% of its turnover, amounting to around Rs 400 crore.
Expansion and Modernization
Managing Director Bimal Kumar Choudhary announced during a distributor meet in Kolkata that the company operates six manufacturing plants across the country: one in Dankuni, one in Bhubaneswar, two in Bihar, and two in Uttar Pradesh. Last year, with an investment of Rs 250 crore, a second manufacturing unit was established in Thakurganj, Bihar. All plants are now modernized, and production has been diversified into segments such as biscuits, cakes, cookies, and croissants. Choudhary noted, "We are awaiting the new industry policy to plan new investment in the state."
Distributor Network and Strategy
Anmol Industries has a robust distributor network of about 6,000 nationwide, with 500 in Bengal alone. Emphasizing the company's strategic shift, Choudhary stated, "We are following an omni-channel strategy to expand our business in urban areas. Currently, around 65% of our business comes from rural parts." This move aims to tap into the growing urban demand and reduce reliance on rural markets.
The company's focus on urban expansion is expected to drive significant growth, leveraging its modernized production facilities and diversified product range to capture a larger share of the competitive bakery market.
