Bangalore Watch Company Unveils Watch Made from Captured Carbon
Bangalore Watch Co. Unveils Watch Made from Captured Carbon

Bangalore Watch Company has introduced the Peninsula Carbon, a watch crafted from carbon captured directly from the atmosphere. This marks the first instance globally of a watch brand utilizing carbon capture technology to create a high-quality wearable that narrates the carbon impact of urban living.

A Shift in Focus: From Nature to Cities

Mercy Amalraj, Co-Founder of Bangalore Watch Company, explained the inspiration behind the new timepiece: "When we launched the Peninsula collection in 2025, it celebrated mountains, oceans, and forests. Now, we are turning our attention to cities. Our cities house only 2% of the world's population yet contribute 70% of the global carbon footprint. Peninsula Carbon serves as a reminder of this reality."

Innovative Material: ReforgeCarbon

For this project, the brand developed a proprietary material called ReforgeCarbon. Each dial is created by compressing carbon fibers and recovered carbon black under high pressure, resulting in a lightweight, durable material that is visually distinct from conventional carbon fiber. Recovered carbon black (rCB) is produced by processing industrial waste and byproducts that would otherwise be incinerated, releasing emissions into the atmosphere.

Tejas Sidnal, CEO and Founder of CarbonCraft, a Bangalore-based material science company that collaborated on this project, expressed pride in their contribution: "We are proud of our material contribution to this project with Bangalore Watch Company."

A Cultural Statement, Not Just Sustainability

Nirupesh Joshi, Co-Founder of the brand, elaborated on the watch's underlying message: "For most of human history, we did not live in permanent settlements. But today, cities are engines of economic growth and human ambition. The biggest consequence of this is carbon. Peninsula Carbon begins with that reality. It is not a sustainability argument, but a cultural statement. We have taken actual particulate matter and turned it into a precision object for our wrists."

Design and Specifications

The watch features a unique mock-AQI meter replacing the traditional minute track, with numbers and colors graduating from 50 in green to 500 in deep red. It is constructed from 316L surgical grade stainless steel, paired with a super-domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The timepiece is water-resistant up to 200 meters and powered by a Swiss-made automatic movement, regulated and tested to the highest standards at the brand's watchmaking workshop in Bangalore.

Limited Edition and Pricing

The Peninsula Carbon is offered as a single execution, limited to 100 pieces. Each watch carries its own unique dial structure, shaped by the forming process, ensuring no two watches are identical. Every piece is individually numbered. The watch is priced at INR 2,83,000 and will be available for order via the brand's website starting 26th May 2026.
