Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line Commuters See Relief with New Train
Metro commuters in Bengaluru can now breathe a little easier during rush hours. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has rolled out a seventh train for the Yellow Line. This addition officially started passenger service on January 15.
Shorter Waits During Busy Times
The extra train brings a direct benefit for daily travelers. From Monday to Saturday, the waiting time between trains during peak hours has dropped. Commuters will now see a train every 10 minutes. This is a noticeable improvement from the previous 13-minute gap.
Sunday services also get a small boost. The peak-hour frequency on Sundays improves to one train every 14 minutes. It was previously every 15 minutes. This change should help manage weekend crowds more effectively.
BMRCL made it clear that this upgrade does not alter the schedule for the first or last trains. Departure times from the RV Road and Bommasandra terminal stations remain unchanged on all days.
Digital Ticketing Gets a Major Upgrade
Alongside the better train service, BMRCL launched a new digital ticketing option. Starting January 15, passengers can buy mobile-based QR code unlimited travel passes. These passes are available through the official Namma Metro app.
Travelers can choose from one-day, three-day, or five-day passes. The new system removes the old requirement for a Rs 50 refundable security deposit. This deposit was necessary for the contactless smart cards.
Using the pass is simple. Passengers display the QR code on their phone screen. They then scan it at the automatic fare collection gates for both entry and exit.
The pricing for the new passes is straightforward. A one-day pass costs Rs 250. The three-day pass is priced at Rs 550. For longer visits, the five-day pass will cost Rs 850.
According to BMRCL officials, this initiative has a clear goal. They aim to cut down long queues at ticket counters. The move also seeks to make the overall metro experience more convenient for every passenger.
These combined efforts signal a positive step for Bengaluru's public transport. Reduced wait times and easier digital payments address two common pain points for city commuters.
