Bhilwara's Textile Sector Gains Momentum as Chief Secretary Proposes Global Conference
In a significant development for Rajasthan's industrial landscape, Chief Secretary V Srinivas underscored the critical importance of textile research and advocated for organizing a global conference of textile experts in Bhilwara. This announcement came during his official visit to the Bhilwara Circuit House on Friday, where he was warmly received by District Collector Jasmeet Singh Sandhu and Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh.
Launch of Viksit Bharat Gram Abhiyan and Industry Inspection
The visit marked a pivotal moment as Srinivas inaugurated the district's first "Viksit Bharat Gram Abhiyan," a flagship initiative aimed at rural development. Following this launch, he conducted a detailed inspection of Nitin Spinners located on Chittorgarh Road. During this visit, Srinivas engaged in productive interactions with local textile entrepreneurs and farmers, gathering firsthand insights into the sector's challenges and opportunities.
Remarkable Growth in Cotton Cultivation and Textile Exports
Addressing the media, Chief Secretary Srinivas highlighted the impressive strides made in Bhilwara's textile industry. He reported that cotton cultivation in the district has seen a substantial increase over recent years, contributing to steady progress in the local textile sector. A key indicator of this growth is the rise in yarn exports from Bhilwara, signaling enhanced production capabilities and market reach.
One of the most striking statistics shared was the dramatic expansion in spindle capacity. Srinivas revealed that the number of spindles in Bhilwara has surged from approximately 60,000 to nearly 15 lakh, representing a monumental leap in manufacturing infrastructure. "We now envision scaling this up to 50 lakh spindles under the Viksit Bharat and Viksit Rajasthan vision for the year 2047," he declared, outlining an ambitious roadmap for future development.
Policy Support and Specialized Cotton Cultivation
The Chief Secretary also discussed the successful cultivation of Kasturi cotton in the district, noting its positive performance. He emphasized that this initiative would receive a significant boost from the recently launched ‘Industrial Park Policy 2026,’ unveiled by the state government just two days prior. Additionally, Srinivas referenced the ‘Textile and Apparel Policy 2025,’ implemented in December of last year, as part of ongoing governmental efforts to fortify textile growth in key areas such as Rupaheli within the district.
He elaborated on how these policies are designed to foster integrated growth across the textile industry, creating a cohesive ecosystem from farming to manufacturing.
Expansion of Extra-Long Staple Cotton and Future Plans
Providing specific data, Srinivas mentioned that extra-long staple cotton is currently being cultivated on around 30,000 hectares in Bhilwara and an additional 11,000 hectares in Banswara. To further amplify this cultivation, he announced plans for meetings with officials from the agriculture department, the Cotton Corporation of India, and ginning factories. These discussions will focus on strategies to increase production and optimize processes.
Srinivas expressed optimism about the sector's growth potential, stating that the state government is committed to advancing under the framework of the two newly introduced policies. This proactive approach aims to harness the observed momentum and ensure sustainable development in Rajasthan's textile industry, positioning Bhilwara as a key hub in the global textile map.
