Central Coalfields Limited Announces Major Mining Expansion in Ramgarh District

Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a prominent public sector undertaking, has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly expand its mining operations in the Rajrappa area of Ramgarh district. This strategic move is specifically designed to augment the company's production of coking coal, a critical raw material for the steel industry.

Massive Investment and Project Details

The expansion initiative involves two key components: the Bhairvi coal project and a comprehensive mega mine expansion within the Damodar river basin, targeting the villages of Dhawaiya and Simrabera. The total estimated investment for these projects exceeds Rs 1,000 crore, highlighting the scale of CCL's commitment to boosting domestic coal production.

According to official statements, the mega mine expansion will be executed across 1,445 acres of land. This substantial area is projected to yield approximately 72 million tonnes of coking coal upon completion. The expansion represents a significant step forward in meeting the growing industrial demand for this essential resource.

Focus on Block-2 Mine and Community Welfare

Rajiv Singh, the General Manager of the Rajrappa area for CCL, emphasized that the company is particularly focused on the block-2 mine expansion plan. In line with corporate social responsibility and regulatory requirements, Singh confirmed that displaced villagers will receive comprehensive support.

This support includes employment opportunities, fair compensation, and rehabilitation facilities, all administered in strict accordance with Coal India Limited's (CIL) established rehabilitation and resettlement policy. The approach aims to balance industrial growth with community welfare, ensuring that local populations benefit from the development projects.

The expansion in Ramgarh is expected to not only enhance CCL's operational capacity but also contribute to regional economic development through job creation and infrastructure improvements. As India continues to prioritize industrial growth and self-sufficiency in key sectors, such initiatives by public sector units like CCL play a crucial role in achieving these national objectives.
