Pune: The price of CNG and PNG has been increased by Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) by Re1 per kilogram and per standard cubic metre (SCM), respectively, effective from Tuesday (midnight of Monday) in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and adjoining areas of Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjewadi.
New Prices
The new price for 1kg of CNG is Rs95.75, up from the existing Rs94.75. The last price hike was of Rs2.50, which came into effect from May 28. Similarly, the price of PNG per SCM has been hiked from Rs50.65 to Rs51.50.
Growing Adoption of PNG
MNGL has recorded a massive increase in households opting for PNG over LPG in the recent past, indicating a shift toward cleaner fuel.
Auto Unions Demand Fare Hike
Autorickshaw unions have consistently demanded an increase in fares due to the frequent rise in CNG prices. According to sources, this latest hike will further strengthen their demand. An office bearer with Rickshaw Panchayat Union stated, "We have demanded the fare hike, and the latest hike is a testament that the administration and RTA shouldn't delay it any further."
