The Ghaziabad district administration has acquired approximately 100 hectares of land in Modinagar's Niwari area for a new industrial hub to be developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA). Officials confirmed on Monday that the land acquisition process has been completed after farmers received compensation at four times the prevailing circle rate.
Significant Step for Industrial Growth
This acquisition marks a crucial milestone in the state government's efforts to bolster industrial infrastructure, attract fresh investments, and create employment opportunities in the rapidly expanding National Capital Region (NCR) belt. Additional District Magistrate (Land Acquisition) Avaneesh Kumar informed the Times of India that about 91 hectares were acquired from farmers, while nearly 9 hectares were transferred from the Gram Sabha, bringing the total to around 100 hectares.
Boosting Ghaziabad's Industrial Capacity
Officials stated that the project is expected to enhance Ghaziabad's industrial capacity while complementing ongoing infrastructure and logistics projects in the Modinagar region. The development comes three years after UPSIDA initially planned the hub and identified 340 acres of land in the area for the project.
Addressing Long-Standing Demand
Ghaziabad has not seen the development of new industrial clusters in over two decades, despite growing demand for land to set up new industries. UPSIDA had exhausted its land bank, hindering expansion. Traditionally an industrial city, Ghaziabad hosts more than 27,000 industries across 10 industrial clusters, employing a workforce of over five lakh. However, due to UPSIDA's inability to create new clusters, it has been unable to meet the demand for land for new industries. This acquisition aims to address that gap.
