The Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC) has revealed exciting plans to create twenty permanent market stalls at the Forest Art Park in Panaji. These stalls will serve local entrepreneurs and self-help groups (SHGs) across the state.
Boosting Local Economy and Women's Participation
GFDC chairperson Deviya Rane explained the initiative aims to promote locally made products. It seeks to strengthen grassroots economic activity, especially among women involved in traditional and artisanal production.
"The stall area will function like a farmers' market," Rane stated. "This creates a direct hub for producers to sell their goods to consumers."
Flexible Market Schedule
The market is initially planned as a monthly event. However, it could shift to a weekly format based on public interest and footfall. This flexibility allows the initiative to adapt to community needs.
Rane emphasized the Forest Art Park offers a scenic and culturally engaging backdrop. This setting makes it an ideal community gathering point that showcases Goa's local talent and produce.
"Right from beekeepers to traditional khajem sellers, every type of SHG can participate in this initiative free of cost," she assured.
Announcement at Goa Forest Diversity Festival
Rane shared these details on the sidelines of announcing the Goa forest diversity festival. This festival will take place at the Art Park from January 17 to 19.
Over three days, the festival will feature an immersive traditional space called Angon. Angon will bring indigenous practices to life through live demonstrations, storytelling, and interactive sessions.
Festival Highlights
The event will also showcase authentic tribal cuisine. This brings traditional forest-based food practices and flavours directly to the public.
Additionally, the Green Bazaar will display eco-friendly products, forest produce, and items promoting sustainable living. This aligns with the broader goal of supporting local economies and environmental consciousness.
The combination of permanent market stalls and cultural festivals creates a vibrant platform for Goa's artisans and entrepreneurs. It promises to boost local commerce while celebrating the region's rich heritage.
