In a significant move for the Indian motorcycle market, Harley-Davidson, in collaboration with its local partner Hero MotoCorp, has officially revealed the new X440T. The model is set for its official market launch this coming weekend, marking an exciting addition to the brand's portfolio.
Design & Styling: A Fresh Take on the X440
The Harley-Davidson X440T immediately sets itself apart from the standard X440 with a comprehensively revised rear section. The tail receives a longer and more streamlined cowl, giving the motorcycle a distinct silhouette. Harley has also redesigned the seat and equipped it with more substantial grab handles for the pillion rider. The rear fender is new, completing the transformed look.
From a styling perspective, the X440T will be offered in four colour schemes: blue, white, red, and black. New graphics proudly displaying 'Harley-Davidson X440T' adorn the fuel tank, complemented by side panels featuring a chequered-flag design motif. While the front end remains familiar, it gains contemporary touches like bar-end mirrors and front fenders finished in black.
Hardware & Performance: Familiar Yet Potentially Enhanced
Beneath its updated skin, the X440T remains largely faithful to the mechanical blueprint of the original X440. Power continues to come from the same 440 cc, single-cylinder, air-oil cooled engine, coupled with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. In the standard X440, this unit produces 27 horsepower and 38 Nm of torque. There is speculation that the engine mapping for the X440T might be tuned differently to match its new character, though official figures are awaited.
The chassis continues to be a trellis frame, and the suspension setup is expected to be carried over. This includes 43 mm USD forks at the front and twin rear shock absorbers with 7-step preload adjustability.
Features & Technology: Expected Upgrades
In terms of features, the X440T is anticipated to retain the 3.5-inch circular TFT display from the X440, which offers smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. However, a major upgrade could be on the cards with the potential introduction of ride-by-wire technology. This would enable features like multiple riding modes and possibly even traction control, significantly enhancing the motorcycle's electronic suite. Safety will be ensured by the continued inclusion of dual-channel ABS as standard equipment.
