India's Foodgrain Production Hits Record 357 Million Tonnes in 2024-25
India Sets Record Foodgrain Production at 357 Million Tonnes

Historic Milestone for Indian Agriculture

India has achieved an unprecedented agricultural milestone with foodgrain production reaching a record high of 357.32 million tonnes during the 2024-25 fiscal year. The Final Estimate of Production of Foodgrains, released by the Agriculture Ministry on November 21, 2025, reveals remarkable growth across multiple crop categories.

Breaking Down the Record Numbers

The data shows a significant 7.65% increase in foodgrain production compared to the previous year's 332.29 million tonnes. Four key crops—rice, wheat, soybean, and groundnut—have achieved their highest-ever production levels in the nation's history.

Rice production during Kharif 2024-25 reached 122.77 million tonnes, marking an impressive 8.39% growth from the previous year's 113.25 million tonnes. Wheat production stood at 117.94 million tonnes, while soybean output reached 15.26 million tonnes and groundnut production hit 11.9 million tonnes.

Long-Term Growth and Future Strategies

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that this represents the highest increase in foodgrain production in the last decade. From 251.54 million tonnes in 2015-16, production has surged by an impressive 106 million tonnes to reach the current record level.

Following the release of the final estimates, Minister Chouhan conducted strategic discussions with senior officials about future agricultural policies. He expressed strong confidence that the 'Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission' will provide significant momentum to boost pulse production across the country.

This record-breaking achievement underscores India's growing agricultural capabilities and food security resilience. The consistent growth pattern over the past ten years demonstrates the effectiveness of government initiatives and the dedication of Indian farmers in meeting the nation's food requirements.
