India's Passenger Vehicle Market Maintains Momentum in February 2026

The Indian automotive sector demonstrated robust performance in February 2026, with the passenger vehicle market recording steady growth across several key manufacturers. While the overall trend remained positive, the results were mixed for some brands, highlighting the competitive landscape of the industry.

Maruti Suzuki Retains Market Leadership

Maruti Suzuki India continued to dominate as the country's largest carmaker, reporting total sales of 213,995 units in February 2026. This figure represents a 7.32 per cent increase compared to 199,400 units sold in the same month last year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales remained largely stable at 161,000 units, slightly higher than the 160,791 units recorded in February 2025. The company experienced strong growth in exports, which surged to 39,155 units from 25,021 units a year earlier.

Tata Motors Reports Impressive Growth

Tata Motors posted remarkable performance with total passenger vehicle sales reaching 63,331 units, marking a 35 per cent rise compared to 46,811 units in February 2025. Domestic sales grew by 34 per cent to 62,329 units, while international sales increased to 1,002 units from 376 units a year ago. Notably, the company's electric vehicle sales saw a significant boost, rising 57 per cent to 8,385 units from 5,343 units last year.

Mahindra & Mahindra Sees Strong Increase

Mahindra & Mahindra reported overall automobile sales of 97,177 units in February 2026, representing an 18 per cent increase year-on-year. Domestic utility vehicle sales stood at 60,018 units, up 19 per cent compared to 50,420 units in the same period last year.

Hyundai Motor India Achieves Record Performance

Hyundai Motor India Limited posted total sales of 66,134 units in February 2026, registering a 12.6 per cent year-on-year growth. Domestic sales stood at 52,407 units, up 9.8 per cent, while exports increased 24.8 per cent to 13,727 units. The company highlighted that this was its highest-ever February sales performance since it began operations in India.

Other Key Players Show Positive Trends

Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded total sales of 34,034 units in February 2026, a 20 per cent growth over 28,414 units in February 2025. Domestic sales rose 16 per cent to 30,737 units, while exports saw a sharp 65 per cent increase to 3,297 units from 2,000 units a year earlier.

Kia India reported its best-ever February sales since entering the Indian market. The company sold 27,610 units, registering a 10.3 per cent growth over 25,026 units in February 2025. This performance marked the brand's second consecutive month of double-digit growth.

Renault India Posts Growth Amidst Challenges

Renault India reported wholesales of 3,495 units in February 2026, registering a 31 per cent increase compared to 2,676 units in February 2025. The company also reported 32 per cent cumulative growth for the first two months of 2026 compared to the same period last year.

Honda Cars India Faces Decline

In contrast, Honda Cars India reported a decline in total sales. The company sold 7,212 units in February 2026, down 30.11 per cent from 10,320 units in February 2025. Domestic sales remained almost unchanged at 5,629 units, compared to 5,616 units a year earlier. However, exports dropped sharply to 1,583 units from 4,707 units in the same period last year.

The February 2026 sales data underscores the dynamic nature of India's passenger vehicle market, with most major players experiencing growth, while a few faced challenges. The overall positive trend reflects continued consumer demand and the industry's resilience in a competitive environment.
