Kanpur to Get New Workers' Hostel and Training Centre for Skill Development
Kanpur Workers' Hostel and Training Centre Announced

Kanpur is set to launch a new initiative aimed at supporting workers with better facilities and training opportunities. The city will soon have a dedicated workers' hostel and a training centre, as announced by labour department officials. This move comes in response to directives from higher authorities to enhance worker welfare and skill development.

Official Directive Sparks Action

Principal Secretary of Labour, MK Shanmuga Sundaram, has instructed the labour department to establish both a training centre and a workers' hostel within Kanpur. Following this order, the department has begun preparations to make this vision a reality. The goal is to create a hub that offers comprehensive support to the local workforce.

Accommodation and Training Details

The planned workers' hostel will have the capacity to house up to 200 individuals, providing them with safe and convenient lodging. For the training centre, officials aim to deliver high-quality skill development programs, similar to those offered by prestigious institutions like IITs. This centre will focus on practical, job-oriented training to boost employability.

Land Identified for Development

Specific locations have already been earmarked for these projects. A two-acre plot in Benajhabar has been selected for the construction of the workers' hostel. Additionally, a one-acre site in Vishnupuri will host the new training centre. These strategic choices ensure that the facilities are accessible and well-suited for their intended purposes.

Focus on Overseas Employment

A key aspect of the training centre will be preparing workers for international job opportunities. Individuals being sent to countries like Israel will receive specialized training in various trades. This includes skills such as masonry, tile work, and electrical work. Language courses will also be part of the curriculum to help workers communicate effectively abroad.

Next Steps and Implementation

Principal Secretary Shanmuga Sundaram has tasked the labour department with drafting a detailed proposal for both the training centre and workers' hostel. The department is also responsible for selecting an appropriate implementing agency to oversee the projects. This structured approach aims to ensure timely and efficient execution of the plans.

Overall, this initiative represents a significant step forward in improving the lives and prospects of workers in Kanpur. By combining accommodation with skill enhancement, it addresses both immediate needs and long-term career growth.
