Mahindra's New SUVs See Over 90,000 Bookings, Delivery Delays Extend to a Year

In a remarkable display of consumer enthusiasm, Mahindra and Mahindra has announced that its recently launched XUV 7XO and XEV 9S models have collectively secured more than 90,000 bookings as of 2:00 PM on January 14, 2026. The total booking value, calculated at ex-showroom prices, stands at an impressive Rs 20,500 crore. This overwhelming response has, however, led to significant delivery delays, with waiting periods for certain variants stretching up to one year.

Detailed Waiting Periods for Mahindra XUV 7XO Variants

The surge in demand has resulted in varied delivery timelines across different trims and powertrains of the XUV 7XO. Based on the latest waiting period chart, here is a breakdown:

  • AX Variant: This base model faces the longest wait, with both petrol and diesel manual versions requiring up to 12 months for delivery. Automatic options are currently not listed, indicating potential supply constraints.
  • AX3 Trim: Buyers can expect a waiting period of approximately five months for both petrol and diesel variants, regardless of whether they choose a manual or automatic transmission.
  • AX5 Trim: Similar to the AX3, this variant commands a waiting period of about five months across all fuel types and transmission options.
  • AX7 Variant: Offering quicker delivery, the petrol manual and automatic versions have a waiting period of around 4 weeks, while diesel manual and automatic variants require about 6 weeks.
  • AX7T Variant: This trim stands out with one of the shortest queues, as both petrol and diesel variants across drivetrains have a waiting period of up to four weeks.
  • AX7 L Variant: At the top end, petrol versions have a waiting period of around four months, while diesel variants extend to about six months across drivetrain options.

These waiting periods are indicative and may vary depending on factors such as location, colour choice, and dealer allocation. Prospective buyers are advised to contact their nearest dealership for the most accurate and updated information.

Design and Features Inspired by XEV 9S

The Mahindra XUV 7XO, while retaining the overall silhouette of its predecessor, the XUV700, has undergone a comprehensive design overhaul. The front and rear sections have been completely redesigned, featuring a new C-shaped LED headlamp cluster with 7-shaped DRLs that wrap around, paired with trapezoidal LED lighting elements. The side profile closely mirrors the outgoing XUV700, but with newly styled alloy wheels, and the rear is marked by a full-width LED light bar and a reshaped bumper. Notably, the design draws inspiration from the recently introduced XEV 9S.

Inside, the cabin adopts a beige-tan colour scheme, also inspired by the XEV 9S. The highlight is a new triple-display layout, offered as standard, which includes a fully digital driver's cluster, a central touchscreen for infotainment, and a separate screen for the front passenger. The interior introduces a fresh two-spoke steering wheel and a reworked centre console that replaces traditional climate-control buttons with a sleek touch-based interface.

Advanced Features and Safety Systems

The XUV 7XO is packed with cutting-edge features, including:

  • Triple screen setup for enhanced connectivity and entertainment.
  • 6-way powered front seats and front and rear ventilated seats for comfort.
  • Multi-colour ambient lighting and two wireless chargers.
  • Panoramic sunroof and Boss Mode for the front passenger seat.
  • A 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience.
  • Dual-zone climate control and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

On the safety front, the SUV is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 540-degree camera, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, ISOFIX seat anchors, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), front and rear sensors, hill descent control, hill hold assist, and an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (IRVM).

Mechanical Specifications Remain Unchanged

Under the hood, the XUV 7XO continues with the familiar 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engines. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. Additionally, the diesel variant is offered with All-Wheel Drive (AWD), enhancing its off-road capabilities and driving dynamics.

This robust combination of design, features, and performance has clearly resonated with Indian consumers, driving the unprecedented booking numbers and subsequent delivery challenges.
