Mankind Pharma CEO Sheetal Arora on Building Culture Through Listening
Mankind Pharma CEO on mentorship and leadership values

Sheetal Arora, the promoter and chief executive of Mankind Pharma Ltd, began his remarkable journey in the pharmaceutical industry at just 19 years old. Despite being part of a family-run enterprise, Arora started from the ground up, working as a medical representative and taking on the crucial responsibility of building sales, marketing, and distribution networks for the company.

From Frontline Experience to Leadership Foundation

The Delhi-based CEO, now 48, recalls spending significant time visiting doctors, chemists, and distributors to understand how to generate demand for their products. His direct interactions with customers provided valuable feedback that helped address negative sentiments in the market. This formative period exposed him to both successes and challenges, ultimately laying the foundation for everything that followed in his career.

Milestones and Cultural Achievements

Over the past three decades, Arora has witnessed and driven numerous significant milestones for Mankind Pharma. Among the achievements he cherishes most are the company first registering a turnover of ₹50 crore, launching their IPO, establishing speciality divisions, and the strategic acquisition of Bharat Serum and Vaccines.

However, Arora considers his proudest achievement to be the organizational culture he has built, which is rooted in humility, integrity, and transparency. He firmly believes this culture has directly contributed to minimal employee attrition within the company.

Mentorship Philosophy and Leadership Approach

Arora attributes much of his success to the guidance of his father and uncle, Ramesh Juneja, who showed him the path of hard work, integrity, and honesty through their own examples. The most important lesson he learned from them is that people come first in any organization.

When it comes to mentoring his own colleagues, Arora emphasizes that mentoring is about listening and guiding rather than dictating. He focuses on understanding team members individual needs, addressing their problems, and helping them identify ways to improve and grow professionally.

His approach includes adding value to their learnings, showing genuine empathy, and maintaining regular communication about future goals and progress. Arora believes true leadership involves creating an environment where seniors support juniors and vice-versa, with everyone learning through encouragement and constructive guidance.

Regarding productivity principles, the CEO strongly believes in delegation rather than micro-management. He empowers leaders at different levels to make appropriate decisions at the right time. Prioritization and clarity of purpose are also central to his approach in both professional and personal life, creating a balanced and effective leadership style that has served Mankind Pharma well through its growth journey.
