Maruti Suzuki e Vitara EV Launches Dec 2: 500km Range, ₹17 Lakh Price
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Electric SUV Launches December 2

India's automotive landscape is set for a seismic shift as the country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, officially enters the electric vehicle (EV) arena. The much-anticipated Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, the brand's first-ever pure electric car, is confirmed for launch in the domestic market on December 2, 2024. This move ends the long wait for a Maruti-badged EV and positions the company to compete directly with established players like Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, MG, and Kia.

Maruti Suzuki's Electric Foray Begins

The launch of the e Vitara is a landmark event, signaling Maruti Suzuki's strategic pivot towards electrification. While the company has been manufacturing the e Vitara in India for export to global markets, its domestic debut marks the start of a new chapter. The automaker has outlined an ambitious plan to introduce four electric models in India by 2030, with the e Vitara serving as the crucial first step. Based on the earlier showcased eVX concept, this SUV has been the subject of intense speculation and discussion within the Indian automotive community for months.

Powertrain, Range, and Charging Details

At the heart of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara's appeal is its promised performance and practicality. The electric SUV will be offered with two battery pack options. The standard variant will feature a 48.8 kWh battery, while higher-end trims will get a larger 61.1 kWh unit. Both configurations will be paired with a single electric motor powering the front wheels.

The most significant figure for potential buyers will be the range. Maruti Suzuki claims the e Vitara will deliver an impressive range of approximately 500 kilometers on a single charge, addressing a primary concern for EV adopters in India. For quick top-ups, the battery can be charged from 0 to 80% in about 50 minutes using a DC fast charger, making longer journeys more feasible.

Feature-Packed and Tech-Savvy Offering

To compete in the premium EV segment, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is expected to come loaded with modern amenities and advanced technology. The feature list is comprehensive, aiming to justify its expected price bracket of ₹17 lakh to ₹26 lakh (ex-showroom).

Comfort and convenience will be enhanced by an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a 10-way electrically adjustable driver's seat. Tech integration will be handled by the Suzuki Connect telematics system. On the safety front, the e Vitara is poised to set a high standard. It is expected to include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and seven airbags.

Other notable features likely to be part of the package are LED projector headlamps and multiple drive modes to tailor the driving experience. By launching the e Vitara, Maruti Suzuki is not just introducing a new car; it is making a definitive statement about its future direction. The December 2 launch will officially welcome India's automotive giant into the electrified future, promising to intensify competition and offer consumers a trusted brand name in the evolving EV space.
