MG Cars in India to Cost More from 2026: Prices Up by 2%
MG India Announces 2% Price Hike Across All Models

Automobile buyers in India will need to dig a little deeper into their pockets for MG vehicles starting next year. JSW MG Motor India has officially declared a price increase of 2 per cent for its entire model lineup. This upward revision is scheduled to take effect from the first day of January 2026.

Why Are MG Car Prices Going Up?

The company has attributed this decision to the persistent rise in input costs and challenging macroeconomic conditions impacting the automotive industry. In an official statement, MG explained that the price adjustment is necessary to partially offset the escalating expenses involved in manufacturing and managing the supply chain. This move highlights the broader inflationary pressures faced by car manufacturers in the current market.

Which MG Models Will Be Most Affected?

The price revision will have a direct impact on some of the brand's most popular vehicles. Leading the list is the MG Windsor EV, the company's best-selling electric car, which is anticipated to become more expensive by up to Rs 35,000. Post-revision, its ex-showroom price is likely to begin from Rs 14.25 lakh.

Similarly, the entry-level electric vehicle, the MG Comet, is expected to see a price bump of around Rs 20,000. This increase will push its starting ex-showroom price to approximately Rs 7.7 lakh. The automaker is expected to announce the detailed, variant-wise revised prices in the early part of next month. It is currently not confirmed if the recently launched Hector facelift will be part of this price hike.

A Closer Look at the New MG Hector Facelift

Speaking of the updated Hector, the SUV has received its second major refresh since its 2019 debut. The petrol variants are currently priced between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 17.29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Hector Plus, with diesel variant prices expected in 2026. The facelift brings several noteworthy upgrades:

Exterior Updates: The design changes are subtle yet distinct. The signature large grille now sports a fresh honeycomb pattern, replacing the older diamond design. The alloy wheels have been redesigned, though they remain 18-inch units. New exterior colour options, including Celadon Blue and Pearl White, have been added to the palette.

Interior & Feature Enhancements: Inside, the cabin gets a new dual-tone Urban Tan theme. The centrepiece is an upgraded 14-inch portrait-style touchscreen that introduces MG's i-Swipe gesture controls. A two-finger swipe adjusts the climate control, while a three-finger gesture manages audio functions. The feature list remains extensive, including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and an Infinity by Harman audio system.

Powertrain & Ownership: Mechanically, the Hector remains unchanged. It continues with a 143hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (with 6-speed manual or CVT) and a 170hp, 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced turbo-diesel (6-speed manual only). The SUV also comes with the standard MG SHIELD programme, offering a 3-year/unlimited km warranty, 3 years of roadside assistance, and 3 free labour services.

Deliveries for the updated Hector are set to begin soon, as it continues to compete with rivals like the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Alcazar.
