MG India Crosses 1 Lakh Electric Vehicle Sales

MG's Electric Revolution Hits 100,000 Sales Mark in India

JSW MG Motor India has achieved a significant breakthrough in the country's electric vehicle landscape, announcing the sale of over 1 lakh electric vehicles across India. This remarkable milestone comes just five years after the automaker introduced its first electric model, demonstrating a steady upward trajectory in the brand's clean mobility journey since 2020.

The Electric Evolution: From ZS EV to Windsor Dominance

MG's electric story in India began with the launch of the ZS EV in early 2020, which laid the crucial foundation for the company's sustainable mobility initiative. The brand expanded its electric portfolio in 2023 with the introduction of the Comet EV, specifically designed for urban commuters seeking city-friendly transportation solutions.

However, the real transformation occurred in September 2024 with the launch of the Windsor compact electric SUV. This model quickly captured the Indian market's imagination and gained substantial popularity. The momentum accelerated further when MG introduced the Windsor Pro in May 2025, featuring an extended driving range that significantly boosted consumer adoption.

The impact of these strategic moves has been substantial. Electric vehicles now constitute over 70% of MG's total monthly sales, closely aligning with the company's ambitious target of achieving 70-80% EV share in its overall sales mix.

Market Dominance and Competitive Landscape

MG's market position has strengthened dramatically in the electric vehicle segment. The brand's EV market share witnessed an impressive climb from 26% in late 2024 to 35% by mid-2025, representing significant growth in a highly competitive market.

Between April and September 2025, MG delivered an impressive 26,640 electric vehicles, showcasing a remarkable 220% year-on-year growth. This explosive performance underscores the brand's growing acceptance among Indian consumers.

The Windsor EV played a pivotal role in driving this success, gaining widespread popularity due to its unique combination of affordability, practical features, and strong value proposition. Positioned as a value-for-money electric vehicle, the Windsor made EV ownership accessible to a broader demographic while addressing range anxiety concerns with its decent driving range per charge.

In the broader Indian EV context, MG has become the second automaker to surpass the 1 lakh sales milestone, following Tata Motors, which achieved this feat in August 2023 and subsequently doubled its tally by February 2025.

Premium Expansion and Future Vision

This year also marked MG's strategic entry into the premium electric vehicle segment with its new Select lineup, featuring the Cyberster roadster and the M9 luxury MPV. While these models target niche, premium buyers, they clearly demonstrate MG's ambition to establish leadership in the high-end EV market, combining performance excellence with luxury and advanced electrification technology.

Commenting on this historic achievement, Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, stated: "Crossing the 100,000 EV sales milestone reflects the trust Indian customers place in sustainable choices. I thank our customers and the entire JSW MG Motor India team for this momentous milestone. As mobility evolves, we remain committed to driving India's vision of innovative and clean mobility solutions."

The company's journey from introducing its first electric vehicle to selling 100,000 units highlights the accelerating adoption of electric mobility in India and positions MG as a key player in the country's transition towards sustainable transportation.
