Nagpur Hospitality Sector Grapples with Persistent LPG Shortages
Despite the Maharashtra state government's recent announcement of a 20% increase in commercial LPG supply, the situation on the ground in Nagpur remains critically strained. Hoteliers and restaurant owners continue to face acute shortages, with many reporting no improvement in availability despite official assurances.
Supply Chain Bottlenecks Hinder Distribution
A limited number of LPG distributors in Nagpur received fresh consignments on Wednesday evening, but deliveries to hotels and restaurants have not commenced. Sources indicate that this delay is due to the absence of clear directives from oil marketing companies, leaving distributors in a state of uncertainty.
The state's move to boost supply followed a central government direction to raise commercial LPG allocation from 30% to 50% for establishments such as hotels, restaurants, and dhabas. However, stakeholders argue that this increase is not translating into tangible relief on the ground.
Stakeholders Voice Frustration Over Unfulfilled Promises
Tejinder Singh Renu, president of the Nagpur Residential Hotels Association (NRHA), expressed deep concern over the disconnect between government announcements and actual supply. "The claimed increase is not visible on the ground," he stated. "While price rises may be understandable given global factors, supply must be ensured as per the government's assurance to prevent further disruption to our operations."
Gas agency operator Mahendra Gawai confirmed that deliveries to commercial establishments remain stalled. "Oil companies have halted the supply of commercial cylinders to hotels and restaurants under our allocation. We have not received fresh stock to distribute, leaving us unable to meet demand," he explained.
Glimmer of Hope Amid Ongoing Uncertainty
Some movement was reported late Wednesday, with Bablu Tiwari, state president of the LPG Dealers Association of India, confirming receipt of a consignment. However, he noted that suppliers are awaiting formal instructions before resuming distribution to commercial users, highlighting the bureaucratic hurdles in the supply chain.
With uncertainty persisting despite official assurances, stakeholders have urgently called on authorities to ensure a steady and predictable LPG supply. The hospitality sector, already grappling with economic challenges, faces further disruption if these issues are not resolved promptly. The situation underscores the need for coordinated action between government bodies and oil marketing companies to bridge the gap between policy announcements and ground-level implementation.
