Odisha Tops with 34 Operational Mineral Blocks Since 2015

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has emerged as the frontrunner as India operationalised 101 auctioned mineral blocks since 2015, with the state accounting for the highest 34, followed by Karnataka (18) and Gujarat (11). Odisha has auctioned close to 50 mineral blocks since the auction regime began, including iron ore, manganese and bauxite mines.

India's Mineral Sector Milestone

India’s mineral sector has hit a key milestone with 101 auctioned blocks becoming operational since the rollout of the auction regime, underlining the impact of reforms driven by the Union mines ministry in coordination with states, a government statement said. Since 2015, the country has seen a steady push towards transparent and competitive allocation of mineral resources, with a large number of blocks auctioned. Of these, 101 are already operational, marking a significant step in translating allocations into production. FY26 recorded the highest annual performance under the regime, with 212 blocks auctioned, signalling growing momentum and improved efficiency.

Policy Support and Fast-Tracked Approvals

The ministry has focused not just on auctions but on expediting production. Through policy support, streamlined procedures and close monitoring, it has worked with states to fast-track clearances and approvals, helping convert allocations into operational mines. These blocks are now contributing to higher domestic output, improving raw material security for core sectors, reducing import dependence and supporting economic growth.
