The Himachal Pradesh government has granted administrative and financial approval of Rs 28.51 crore for developing a 20 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) power infrastructure at the Bulk Drug Park in Polian village, Haroli sub-division. This move is set to boost the establishment of the park, ensuring adequate and uninterrupted electricity supply to proposed units.
Government Commitment to Infrastructure
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, in an official press release, stated that the state government is swiftly implementing its responsibilities for basic infrastructure development, including land, electricity, water, and road connectivity. This is to ensure that the project of national importance can commence production without delay.
Project Details and Funding
The Rs 2,000 crore Bulk Drug Park is one of three such projects in India aimed at producing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), the basic raw material for the pharmaceutical industry. Currently, India heavily relies on foreign countries for API. The central and state governments are each funding Rs 1,000 crore for the Polian park.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has already laid foundation stones for various site development works costing Rs 250 crore. Additionally, drinking water schemes for the drug park have been completed at a cost of Rs 66 crore. A Rs 175 crore project is underway to meet future water requirements for domestic and industrial use.
Economic and Social Impact
Agnihotri emphasized that the Bulk Drug Park project will provide a new identity to the Haroli Assembly constituency nationally and internationally. Drugs manufactured here will serve humanity both within and outside the country. The park is expected to provide direct employment to youth and indirectly boost the local economy.
