A worker of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) sustained injuries during a blasting incident at the Kakatiya Khani (KTK)-5 underground coal mine in Bhupalpally on Monday. The injured worker has been identified as Sriramula Pradeep, who served as a short firer (explosives handler) at the mine.
Details of the Incident
The incident reportedly took place at the 13th level of the coal mine while blasting operations were being carried out for coal production. An explosive charge detonated in Pradeep's hand, causing severe injuries. Following the mishap, his co-workers promptly rushed him to the Bhupalpally Government Hospital for initial treatment.
Official Statement
Speaking to reporters, SCCL Bhupalpally General Manager A Rajeshwar Reddy stated that Pradeep sustained injuries to his left hand. He was later shifted to Hyderabad for advanced medical care. Reddy said, "We have initiated an inquiry into the incident. According to preliminary information, Pradeep was entering details into the system when the detonator he held in his left hand exploded unexpectedly. The blast occurred during the registration process. We are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident."
