Tata Motors has officially launched the much-anticipated Tata Sierra in the Indian market, directly entering the fiercely competitive mid-size SUV segment. The new contender aims to challenge the established dominance of the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta.
The battle for supremacy begins with the price tag. The Tata Sierra Smart+ base variant starts at Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions it slightly above its key rivals, with the Kia Seltos HTE(O) priced at Rs 10.79 lakh and the Hyundai Creta E at Rs 10.72 lakh.
Price and Dimension Showdown
While the Sierra commands a premium, it also brings distinct advantages in size and space. The Tata Sierra measures 4340 mm in length, 1841 mm in width, and 1715 mm in height, making it the widest and tallest vehicle in this trio. A significant differentiator is its massive 622-litre boot space, which dwarfs the 433-litre capacity offered by both the Seltos and Creta.
All three SUVs are powered by 1.5-litre petrol engines and come with a 6-speed manual transmission in their base trims. The power delivery, however, varies slightly, with the Tata Sierra's Revotron engine producing max power at 6000 rpm compared to 6300 rpm for its Korean competitors.
Base Variant Feature Face-Off
The Tata Sierra Smart+ base model impresses with a host of modern features. It comes equipped with bi-LED projector headlights, LED DRLs, and LED tail lamps, giving it a premium look even at the entry level. The cabin features a 4-inch digital driver display, rear AC vents, and a 45W Type-C USB port.
The Kia Seltos HTE(O) fights back with a full digital cluster and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard, which includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This gives it a technological edge in connectivity.
The Hyundai Creta E, while being the most affordable, doesn't compromise on safety. It is equipped with six airbags, ESP, and four disc brakes across all variants, ensuring a high standard of safety for all buyers.
