The tragic incident at a leather factory in Kolkata's Tiljala area has claimed a third life. Thirty-seven-year-old Mohd Ibrar, also known as Yusuf, passed away late on Saturday night due to severe burn injuries sustained in the fire. He had been receiving treatment at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital since the blaze erupted on Tuesday.
Details of the Victim
Ibrar, a resident of Masjid Bari Lane in Tiljala, lived approximately 500 metres from the factory where he had worked for several years. A relative recounted that a fellow worker rushed to their home to inform them about the fire and directed them to the hospital where Ibrar was admitted. His condition was critical from the outset due to the extent of his burns.
Background of the Incident
The fire broke out at a unit operating from a G+4 building on G J Khan Road. The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation. This incident highlights the ongoing safety concerns in industrial units operating in densely populated areas of Kolkata. The local authorities have promised a thorough inquiry and stricter enforcement of fire safety norms.
The first two fatalities were reported earlier in the week, and with Ibrar's death, the toll now stands at three. The families of the victims await compensation and support from the government and factory owners. The incident has also sparked protests from local residents demanding better safety measures and accountability.
