VinFast Prolongs Free EV Charging Initiative Across Key Asian Nations
In a significant move to accelerate electric vehicle adoption, Vietnamese automaker VinFast has announced the extension of its free charging program for customers in India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The policy, now valid through March 31, 2029, offers zero-fuel costs for three years, aiming to incentivize consumers to switch from gasoline-powered vehicles and foster sustainable transportation ecosystems.
Comprehensive Coverage for EV Owners
Under the updated policy, all VinFast electric vehicle owners in the three specified markets will benefit from free charging at the V-Green-developed-and-operated network. This initiative extends broadly to encompass both existing owners and future buyers, including private customers and those utilizing vehicles for transportation services. Notably, drivers operating on the Green SM ride-hailing platform are also covered, enhancing accessibility for commercial users.
Additional Incentives to Drive Transition
Complementing the free charging extension, VinFast's parent company, Vingroup, has launched the "Trade Gas for Electric" program in India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Running from March 11, 2026, to March 31, 2026, this program provides an additional 3% discount on VinFast electric cars and 5% on electric scooters for customers trading in old gasoline vehicles. These discounts can be combined with other market-specific incentive programs, creating favorable conditions for a swift transition to electric mobility.
Ms. Duong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy CEO of Global Sales at VinFast, emphasized, "The initial free charging policy received strong consumer support globally. Extending it for another three years aligns with our strategy to accelerate EV adoption. By optimizing operating costs to nearly zero, we empower consumers to confidently embrace green mobility while contributing to greener transportation systems."
Expanding Ecosystem and Support Policies
VinFast is concurrently expanding its charging network through V-Green across operational markets, ensuring convenient access for EV users. Beyond charging incentives, the company implements multiple policies to promote the green transition, including a battery subscription program to lower upfront costs, a resale value guarantee, flexible payment options, and market-leading warranty coverage. These efforts are part of VinFast's rapidly growing EV ecosystem, designed to popularize electric vehicles and build a sustainable future.
Additionally, users of Green SM electric taxi services in Indonesia, Laos, and Vietnam will receive a 10% discount via the "GreenForAll" program from March 11 to March 31, 2026, further broadening the impact of VinFast's initiatives.
Global Ambitions and Local Impact
VinFast, a subsidiary of Vingroup JSC and a pure-play electric vehicle manufacturer, is committed to making EVs accessible worldwide. Its product lineup includes electric SUVs, e-scooters, and e-buses, with global expansion efforts such as a $500 million facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India. This facility is projected to produce 150,000 vehicles annually and create around 3,500 direct jobs upon full operation, underscoring VinFast's investment in local economies while advancing green technology.
