Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), the 51-year-old mining public sector undertaking (PSU) based in Nagpur, unveiled its first-ever independent logo as a mark of its corporate identity on Monday. WCL, a mini-ratna enterprise, has been playing a key role in meeting the country's energy requirements through coal production across the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
Symbolism and Design
Discussing the new logo, WCL chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) Hemant Pande explained that the artistic representation of the letters W and C signifies the company's commitment to look beyond traditional business and explore new opportunities. The letter C, depicted in red, symbolizes energy and its subtle resemblance to a hockey stick reflects national pride, teamwork, and dynamism, according to Pande. The letter L stands for stability and continuous progress, he added.
Branding and Employee Pride
Pande stated that the new corporate identity will further strengthen WCL's branding and foster a sense of pride among employees. The logo was designed by the company's multimedia communication team. Until now, WCL used the logo of Coal India Limited, its parent company. Like other subsidiaries, WCL will now have its own distinct logo, an official confirmed.
This move marks a significant milestone in WCL's history, reinforcing its unique identity while continuing to contribute to India's energy security.
