Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has projected that by 2031, one lakh people will be employed at GIFT City, the international fintech hub located in Gandhinagar. Currently, 27,000 persons are employed at the hub.
Chief Secretary's Statement
State Chief Secretary M K Das made the announcement at the launch of the Viksit Gujarat Industrial Policy 2026. He stated, "Work is progressing at a good pace at GIFT City. At present, 27,000 persons are employed there. And going by the pace of ongoing work, one lakh people will be employed by 2031."
Speaking to the media later, Das reiterated that the state government has projected the creation of one lakh jobs at the international fintech city on the outskirts of Gandhinagar by 2031. He highlighted that the new industrial policy offers incentives for all sectors and described it as "the best industrial policy he has witnessed in 36 years of service."
Deputy CM's Remarks
Deputy Chief Minister and Industries Minister Harsh Sanghavi, speaking at the policy launch, emphasized the need for a joint effort between the government and industry to attract investments in sunrise sectors in Gujarat. He noted, "There are several sectors where a lot of work can be done in Gujarat."
Sanghavi added, "We are already late in GIFT City, but not so late that we will have to regret. However, that is a possibility in the future. Why should our global capability centres (GCCs) be located outside Gujarat? Why can we not set up GCCs in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and GIFT City? Discussions are underway with stakeholders, and all departments are working on this issue under the direction of the Chief Minister."
