Delhi is set to undergo a major parking transformation with the addition of 232 new surface parking lots and five multi-level parking facilities. The initiative by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) aims to address the growing space crunch caused by rising vehicle numbers in the national capital.
Existing Parking Network Crosses 2 Lakh ECS Capacity
Currently, Delhi has 668 surface parking lots and 43 covered facilities, offering over 2.1 lakh equivalent car spaces (ECS). This includes 1,60,463 ECS from surface lots and 53,922 ECS from covered facilities. Despite this extensive network, increasing vehicle density continues to strain roads and residential parking areas.
DDA Plans 232 New Surface Parking Lots
The DDA has identified land for 232 new surface parking lots across Delhi. These will add capacity for nearly 72,000 vehicles, targeting major residential and commercial zones that face daily parking congestion. The development will be executed in two phases: 50 parking lots are expected to become operational by August 2026, while the remaining 182 sites will be completed by November 15, 2026.
Dwarka Leads with Highest Number of Proposed Sites
Dwarka has the highest share with 98 proposed sites, followed by North Zone with 53, Rohini with 30, East Zone with 28, and South Zone with 23. This distribution targets high-demand urban clusters across the city.
Five Multi-Level Parking Facilities to Ease Roadside Parking
Five multi-level car parks are planned at Karkardooma, Okhla Industrial Area Phase-I, Dilshad Garden, Dwarka, and Saini Enclave. These facilities will have a combined capacity of 1,261 vehicles, aiming to reduce roadside parking pressure in these areas.
Key High-Traffic Areas Included
New parking sites are also planned in Shalimar Bagh, Rohini, Pitampura, Dwarka, Ghazipur, Kalkaji–Tughlakabad Road, and Mehrauli–Mahipalpur Bypass Road, focusing on areas with persistent parking demand.
