Chandigarh Governor Reviews Key Housing & Development Projects Across UT
Governor Kataria Inspects Major Chandigarh Development Projects

In a significant move to assess urban development progress, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, Gulab Chand Kataria, conducted an extensive inspection tour across multiple project sites in Chandigarh on Sunday. The visit focused on reviewing the status of major housing initiatives, bulk material sites, and key development zones to ensure future-ready planning for the city.

Comprehensive Site Inspections Across the City

The governor's itinerary covered a wide range of locations, reflecting a holistic approach to urban management. He began his inspections at the IT Habitat project located in IT Park, Manimajra (pocket 6). Following this, he visited Sanjay Colony in Industrial Area Phase-I, the government housing site in Sector 43, and the Sub-City Centre, also in Sector 43.

The tour further extended to the Chandigarh Housing Board project site in Sector 53, the vacated Furniture Market land in Sector 54, and Adarsh Colony in the same sector. A special emphasis was placed on two large-scale projects: the 70-acre mixed-use development at the Sub-City Centre and the reclaimed land from the Furniture Market. Governor Kataria stressed the need for proper zoning and strategic, forward-looking planning at these sites to maximize their potential for the city's growth.

Key Directives for Improved Livability and Transparency

While reviewing the government housing project in Sector 43, Governor Kataria issued specific instructions to the concerned officials. He directed them to integrate essential amenities directly into the project layout. These include dhobi (laundry) facilities, grocery shops, and basic commercial spaces to create self-sufficient communities.

He also made a crucial policy suggestion, stressing that future residential projects must include in-house allotment provisions for government employees. This measure aims to reduce their reliance on House Rent Allowance (HRA) and provide stable housing solutions.

At the Bulk Material market site in Sector 56—a sprawling 55-acre commercial hub—the governor emphasized the principles of transparency and orderly functioning. The Deputy Commissioner present at the site informed that priority for allotment at this location would be given to accommodating marble dealers from Dhanas and shop owners displaced from the furniture market.

In a significant decision to optimize space and reduce construction costs, approval was granted for the construction of three-storey buildings on individual plots within this commercial zone.

Focus on Systematic Urban Growth

Governor Kataria's day-long review underscores the administration's commitment to structured and planned development in Chandigarh. By personally inspecting sites ranging from IT parks to housing colonies and commercial hubs, the visit highlighted an integrated approach to urban management.

The directives issued focus on enhancing the quality of life for residents through integrated amenities, providing housing security for government staff, and ensuring commercial areas are developed transparently and efficiently. This hands-on review is expected to accelerate the pace of these key projects and align them with the vision of a modern, well-planned Chandigarh.
