In a significant move to enhance urban mobility, Gurgaon's district-level coordination committee has given its approval for a crucial road project aimed at improving connectivity for the city's newer sectors. The decision, taken in a high-level meeting, paves the way for better travel between areas along the Golf Course Extension Road and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) campus.
Key Decisions for Enhanced Road Networks
The committee, chaired by principal advisor for urban development DS Dhesi, convened for its fifth meeting at the mini secretariat. Among the attendees were GMDA CEO PC Meena and deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar. The panel cleared the development of the road stretching from AIPL Mall in Sector 63A to the CRPF campus. This project is expected to significantly ease commute for residents in the rapidly developing zones.
Officials stated that improving the road link from Sector 58 to 63A will be undertaken in the first phase. The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTP) has been tasked with identifying the required land parcels. Once the land acquisition officer completes the procurement process, the land will be handed over to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) for execution of the road construction.
Focus on Land Acquisition and Metro Progress
A major highlight of the meeting was the directive to prioritize land acquisition for the outer sector road network. The DTP has already issued a notification for the development of the Greater Southern Peripheral Road (GSPR) and is processing the related acquisition work. The committee also reviewed plans to strengthen connectivity from the GSPR to Sohna, the CRPF campus, and the jail complex, with land acquisition for these links currently underway.
In parallel, the committee reviewed the progress of the new metro corridor. To expedite matters, the Haryana government has constituted an 11-member panel. This panel will engage in direct negotiations with landowners, and the cost of acquisition will be borne by the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). This step is anticipated to remove a critical bottleneck in the metro project's timeline.
City Road Repairs and Broader Infrastructure Review
Beyond new projects, the maintenance of existing infrastructure was also on the agenda. The repair and upgradation of city roads were discussed. According to the GMDA, patch repair work worth Rs 3.7 crore for Sectors 1 to 23 is currently under approval. This indicates a dual focus on building new corridors while also maintaining the quality of the existing road network.
The meeting mandated the DTP planning wing to examine the alignment proposed for the first-phase road project and report back with details on its feasibility. A senior GMDA official emphasized the committee's comprehensive approach, stating that strengthening links across key southern peripheries remains a top priority for integrated urban development in Gurgaon.
