In a landmark ruling concerning one of Haryana's largest surplus land disputes, the Ambala divisional commissioner has declared that 1,394 acres of land in Panchkula district belong to the state government. The order effectively nullifies private ownership mutations over more than 810 acres of this land.
Strategic Land in Rapidly Developing Belt
The disputed land is spread across seven villages in the Panchkula-Barwala-Yamunanagar belt. This area is considered strategically important due to rapid urban and industrial development. The ruling strengthens the government's claim over the property, which is valued at hundreds of crores of rupees.
Remand for Fresh Adjudication
While upholding the state's position, the commissioner has remanded the matter to the collector (agrarian) of Panchkula for fresh adjudication. All stakeholders have been directed to present their claims before a new order is passed. The collector has been instructed to complete this exercise within two months.
Officials have indicated that the administration will maintain the status quo on the disputed land until the legal position becomes clearer. An official stated, "The government has its own planning. Let the title become clear first. We have a long way to go."
Decades-Old Litigation
The dispute has been under litigation for years and is regarded as one of the most significant land cases in Haryana. While the latest order bolsters the state's position, private claimants are expected to pursue further legal remedies. The case continues to be closely watched by real estate and development circles in the region.
