LDA to Build 450-Vehicle Parking Near Rumi Gate

In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion near Rumi Gate in Hussainabad, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) announced on Wednesday that it will construct a parking facility capable of accommodating approximately 450 vehicles, including buses. The decision follows persistent complaints from residents and visitors about illegal parking causing severe bottlenecks in the area.

Project Details and Capacity

LDA Vice-Chairperson Prathamesh Kumar, after conducting a site inspection, revealed that a 9,000 square meter plot near Rumi Gate has been identified for the project. The facility is designed to hold 15 buses, 150 four-wheelers, and around 300 two-wheelers. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 3 crore. Kumar emphasized that the initiative aims to improve access to nearby heritage sites such as Imambara and the Clock Tower, which have been adversely affected by haphazard parking.

Infrastructure and Pedestrian Access

A 14-meter-wide corridor will be constructed to facilitate smooth vehicle movement within the parking area. Pedestrians will have a dedicated exit route via Musafir Khana Gate, ensuring safety and convenience. Additionally, a secondary parking area spanning about 700 square meters will be developed behind the food court adjacent to an under-construction library. This multi-pronged approach is expected to significantly reduce traffic snarls in the vicinity.

Laziz Gali and Nimbu Park Developments

During the inspection, officials were directed to expedite work on 'Laziz Gali', a food lane featuring 15 kiosks. Pending tasks must be completed within 15 days, with the lane set to become operational this month. At Nimbu Park, Kumar instructed officials to activate the new fountain and plant various lemon varieties to enhance the park's appeal. These measures are part of broader efforts to improve urban infrastructure and public amenities in Lucknow.
