In a decisive move against unauthorised construction and financial defaults, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) sealed six prominent buildings across the city on Tuesday. This stern action came after the building owners failed to comply with demands to clear pending civic dues and rectify illegal structural additions.
Commissioner's Directive Spurs Action
The crackdown was initiated under strict directives from MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal. He had recently warned officials to expedite the recovery of outstanding civic fees and rigorously enforce measures against illegal constructions. Officials were told they could face departmental action themselves if they failed in this duty.
High-Profile Locations Targeted
The sealing drive, conducted by the building branch of MC Zone D, targeted structures in several key areas of the city. The list of sealed properties includes:
- A building on Malhar Road
- Two structures in BRS Nagar
- Two buildings on Ferozepur Road, one of which is a hotel
- Another building on Dugri Road
Assistant Town Planner (ATP) Harvinder Singh confirmed that the owners had not submitted various mandatory dues, including Change of Land Use (CLU) charges. Furthermore, these properties were found to have established unauthorised structures without the necessary approvals.
Formal Notice and Future Intensification
The owners of the sealed buildings have now been formally directed to clear all outstanding dues with the civic body. MC officials stated that the twin drive—against both illegal constructions and the recovery of pending fees—is set to intensify in the coming days.
The corporation has also issued a public appeal, urging all residents to ensure that any construction work begins only after the necessary building plans have been officially approved by the authorities. Officials warned that any construction started without prior approval from the civic body will face immediate and strict action, including potential sealing.
This move signals a no-tolerance policy from the Ludhiana MC as it seeks to enforce urban planning norms and ensure compliance with municipal regulations.
