Jaipur Ring Road: NHAI Opens First Cloverleaf Loop After 5-Year Delay
NHAI Opens Jaipur Ring Road Loop, Eases Ajmer-Side Traffic

In a significant development for Jaipur's traffic infrastructure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finally opened a section of the long-delayed Ring Road cloverleaf. The first of four proposed loops was inaugurated on Tuesday, marking a partial rollout of a project that has seen prolonged delays since the southern corridor's inauguration over five years ago.

A Step Towards Easing Congestion

This newly opened loop is expected to significantly improve traffic flow for vehicles coming from the Ajmer side and entering the Ring Road at the busy Mahapura crossing. The opening follows a tragic incident on December 20 last year, where a collision between an LPG tanker and a truck on the Ajmer Expressway led to a devastating explosion, claiming 15 lives and injuring several others. The area's safety and traffic management have been under intense scrutiny since.

Safety First: A Delayed but Deliberate Opening

Ajay Arya, the project director of NHAI, revealed that the opening was carefully planned. An initial attempt to open the loop on Monday was postponed to incorporate additional last-minute safety features. "We allowed a few vehicles to use the loop on Monday evening as a test run," Arya explained. "After evaluation, we decided to add a few more safety features before Tuesday's formal opening." This cautious approach underscores the authority's focus on preventing future accidents.

Road Ahead: More Work to Be Done

While this opening brings relief, the project is far from complete. NHAI officials confirmed that the second loop of the cloverleaf remains unfinished. They estimate it will take approximately another two months before it can be opened to the public. The remaining loops are also in various stages of planning and construction, indicating that the full benefits of the cloverleaf design will be realized only in the future.

The partial opening represents a critical, albeit delayed, milestone for Jaipur's commuters and the NHAI. It addresses immediate traffic woes on a dangerous stretch while highlighting the ongoing efforts to complete the entire Ring Road enhancement, a project eagerly awaited by the city for years.
