The Vidarbha Economic Development Council has taken a significant step toward transforming Nagpur's sports and lifestyle infrastructure by formally submitting a comprehensive project proposal to key government officials.
Major Development Proposal Submitted
The Vidarbha Economic Development Council has formally presented a detailed project proposal and DPR to Saoner MLA Ashish Deshmukh, seeking his crucial support for developing a world-class professional golf course and integrated sports country club in Nagpur. The council has simultaneously submitted copies to District Collector Vipin Itankar, urging both officials to follow up on the matter with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
This ambitious initiative represents one of the most significant leisure infrastructure projects proposed for the region in recent years, positioning Nagpur as a destination for premium sports and lifestyle amenities.
Comprehensive Sports and Lifestyle Infrastructure
The proposal outlines the establishment of Nagpur's first international-standard 18-hole championship golf course, accompanied by a premium sports and lifestyle township. The project is intended to be developed under the ministry of sports and youth welfare and includes extensive facilities beyond golf.
The luxury country club will feature facilities for tennis, squash, badminton, swimming, pickleball, and gym training. Additionally, the blueprint includes a boutique hotel, luxury cottages, and a comprehensive golf academy with specialized pathways for juniors and underprivileged students, ensuring broad accessibility to the sport.
Economic Impact and Job Creation Potential
VED president Rina Sinha emphasized that Nagpur's rapid emergence as an industrial, IT, and logistics hub, accelerated by MIHAN, global OEMs, technology firms, and major service industries, necessitates internationally benchmarked lifestyle and sports infrastructure. She noted that such facilities are essential for attracting high-value investments, global talent, and premium tourism, all critical components for Vidarbha's future growth trajectory.
The DPR identifies the need for acquiring approximately 175-200 acres within 25 kilometers of the city center, with priority given to fast-developing corridors such as MIHAN, Hingna, the Outer Ring Road belt, Kalmeshwar, and Umred Road.
According to VED's assessment, the project could generate more than 2,500 direct jobs and over 6,000 indirect employment opportunities, creating a substantial annual economic impact estimated between ₹250-300 crore for the region.
Global Investment Appeal and Government Support
The council highlighted that global investors, particularly from Japan, Korea, Germany, and the United States, frequently evaluate the availability of professional golf and lifestyle infrastructure when making long-term investment decisions. This project aims to position Nagpur competitively in attracting such international business interest.
VED has requested the state government to allocate suitable land, create a Special Development Zone, provide access to treated water, facilitate single-window permissions, and classify the initiative as a State Priority Infrastructure Project to accelerate its development.
This comprehensive approach underscores the project's potential to transform Nagpur's economic landscape while providing world-class recreational facilities that meet international standards and expectations of global businesses and talent.
