Silicon Beach Program Unveils BaseCamp Initiative to Foster Global Business Growth in Coastal Karnataka
The Silicon Beach Program (SBP) officially launched its innovative BaseCamp initiative on Saturday, marking a significant step in its mission to transform coastal Karnataka into India's premier Silicon Beach. This strategic program is specifically crafted to empower companies, founders, and professionals to establish nano global capability centres (GCCs) and satellite offices across the region.
Comprehensive Support for Seamless Business Operations
BaseCamp is engineered to provide end-to-end assistance for global enterprises looking to set up and expand their operations in coastal Karnataka. The initiative covers every critical aspect, from initial entity setup and regulatory compliance to talent acquisition and robust infrastructure support. Rohith Bhat, SBP convener and founder of prominent firms including wrkwrk, 99Games, and Robosoft, emphasized the program's holistic approach.
"BaseCamp simplifies the process for companies to initiate and scale their presence from coastal Karnataka," Bhat stated. "We guide them from the very first conversation through to the first hire, managing compliance, hiring, and on-ground logistics to ensure teams can operate effectively from day one."
Building on Regional Momentum with Expert Partnerships
The SBP has forged strategic partnerships with seasoned experts from Bengaluru who possess extensive experience in establishing multiple GCCs. This collaboration leverages existing expertise to accelerate growth. The initiative builds upon a strong foundation of recent achievements in the region, which has witnessed the creation of over 40 companies and more than 8,000 IT jobs in the past two years alone.
Under the complementary HomeComing initiative, job offers are anticipated to be extended to nearly 31 professionals, further boosting local employment. Bhat highlighted the multiplier effect of such recruitment, noting, "The relocation of even one experienced professional to this area can generate opportunities for up to ten fresh graduates, fostering a vibrant talent ecosystem."
Official Launch and Zero-Profit Model
The BaseCamp initiative was formally inaugurated by Mangaluru City North MLA Bharath Shetty Y, who underscored its collaborative and non-profit nature. "This is a zero-profit initiative with no fees involved," Shetty clarified. "It represents a collective effort to support businesses choosing Mangaluru, and it should be viewed without any ideological or political bias."
Shetty acknowledged that companies might initially hesitate due to unfamiliarity with the local ecosystem but assured that BaseCamp offers a structured support system to mitigate these concerns and facilitate smooth integration.
Success Stories and Future Expansion Plans
Testimonials from early adopters illustrate the initiative's effectiveness. Nagaraj Acharya of Vinyl Equity, a US-based startup, explained their decision to choose Mangaluru over larger metropolitan cities after thorough evaluation. "We sought the convenience of a major city without the associated chaos. The available infrastructure and supportive ecosystem here made the choice clear and advantageous," he remarked.
Vishal Kanchan of Entrupy shared his company's positive experience, detailing how they established a base in Bengaluru with about 70 employees as part of a global workforce of 250. "We started with just five people in Mangaluru last year, and success came swiftly. Today, we have over 40 employees here and plan to scale further, including setting up a 24/7 support centre," Kanchan revealed, highlighting the region's potential for sustained growth.
This launch positions BaseCamp as a pivotal tool in attracting global investment and talent to coastal Karnataka, reinforcing the Silicon Beach vision with practical, actionable support for businesses aiming to thrive in this emerging hub.
