Buddy4Study's Pay-It-Forward Model: Scholars Become Donors

Buddy4Study has introduced a sustainable education funding model through its GEV Memorial Kind Circle, which has raised over Rs 1 crore in donations and awarded scholarships to 73 law students. Notably, former scholars are now contributing as donors and mentors, challenging traditional one-time scholarship approaches.

GEV Memorial Kind Circle Achievements

The giving community on Buddy4Study's Kind Circle platform has mobilized Rs 1,01,15,000 in donations. Scholarships of up to Rs 2,00,000 per student have been disbursed. In a recent case, a second-year law student at Kazi Nazrul University, West Bengal, whose widowed mother earns Rs 96,000 annually, received Rs 40,000. The largest contribution of Rs 35,500 came from Devansh Saraswat, a 2017-18 GEV Memorial Scholarship alumnus now working as a Legal Counsel at a leading private bank. He has also offered mentorship.

Former Scholars Giving Back

The model's strength lies in former beneficiaries becoming donors. Recent contributions include Devansh Saraswat (Rs 35,500), Advocate Devansh Malhotra (Rs 10,000), Shambhavi Sinha (Rs 5,000), and Anet Johnson (Rs 1,000). This creates a cycle where scholarships continue beyond one student's success.

Urgent Appeal Success

In April 2026, the alumni network responded to an urgent appeal for Siddhartha Deb, a second-year BA LL.B student at Kazi Nazrul University. After his father's death, his mother supported the family on Rs 96,000 annually. Despite scoring over 80% in school, Siddhartha struggled with Rs 40,000 in educational expenses. After due diligence by Buddy4Study, the full amount was raised, with Devansh Saraswat contributing Rs 35,500.

Devansh Saraswat's Journey

Devansh received the GEV Memorial Scholarship in 2017-18 while pursuing BBA LL.B at Gujarat National Law University. The Rs 2,00,000 support came when his family faced financial strain after his father lost his job. To reduce costs, Devansh moved from a private school to Banaras Hindu University's Central Hindu Boys School, saving Rs 55,000 annually. Now, he not only donated but also offered to mentor Siddhartha.

Devansh said: “Most of us have received support that changed our lives. This is about showing up. Even a small contribution can make a difference. We don't just move ahead individually; we carry others along.”

Community Impact

The GEV Memorial Kind Circle demonstrates how education funding can become a community effort. Former beneficiaries become donors, mentors, and advocates, turning scholarships into lasting support networks. Advocate Devansh Malhotra, a first-generation lawyer practicing at the Supreme Court of India, shared: “The GEV Memorial Scholarship reached me during a hard phase. Today, I contribute to continue that circle of support. Standing by a student at the right moment can change their life.”

Pay-It-Forward Model

Buddy4Study's Kind Circle platform enables individuals, families, alumni groups, and organizations to create transparent giving communities with student verification and direct disbursal. The GEV Memorial Kind Circle exemplifies how focused scholarship communities can create continuing impact when scholars return to strengthen them.
