The Faridabad police have apprehended a couple from Mumbai for their alleged involvement in a forex investment fraud amounting to Rs 3.1 crore. The accused, identified as Rajesh and Priya Mehta, were arrested following a complaint filed by a group of investors who were promised exorbitant returns on their investments.
Details of the Fraud
The couple operated a fraudulent forex trading scheme, luring investors with promises of high monthly returns. They collected substantial sums from multiple individuals in Faridabad and surrounding areas. The modus operandi involved creating fake trading accounts and showing fabricated profits to maintain the illusion of a legitimate business.
Investor Complaints
Several victims came forward after the couple stopped responding to their calls and failed to return the invested capital. The total amount defrauded is estimated at Rs 3.1 crore. Police have seized electronic devices and documents from the couple's residence in Mumbai.
Police Investigation
According to a senior police official, the couple was arrested after a thorough investigation that included tracking financial transactions and digital footprints. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and criminal breach of trust. Further investigations are ongoing to determine if more individuals were involved.
Legal Proceedings
The accused were produced before a local court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation. Authorities are also working to trace the diverted funds and provide relief to the victims.
