T-Hub and Tripura Government Forge Partnership to Strengthen Startup Ecosystem in Northeast

In a significant move to bolster entrepreneurial growth in India's northeastern region, Hyderabad-based innovation hub T-Hub announced on Thursday a strategic partnership with the Tripura government's Directorate of Information Technology (DIT). This collaboration aims to establish a structured, long-term startup ecosystem in Tripura, leveraging T-Hub's expertise to drive innovation and economic development.

Momentum in Tripura's Startup Landscape

The partnership comes at a time when Tripura's startup environment is experiencing rapid growth. Over the past five years, the number of recognised startups in the state has surged by approximately 66%, spanning diverse sectors such as technology, services, and emerging industries. This upward trend underscores the region's potential as a hub for entrepreneurial activity, making it an ideal focus for targeted support and development initiatives.

Key Components of the Collaboration

Under this agreement, T-Hub will work closely with DIT, which serves as the nodal authority for technology initiatives under Tripura's industries and commerce department. The primary objective is to design and operationalise comprehensive incubation frameworks tailored to the state's unique needs. Planned interventions include:

  • Support for Incubation Centres: Enhancing the state's existing incubation centre and innovation park to provide better resources and infrastructure for startups.
  • Detailed Project Reports: Preparation of in-depth reports to guide the implementation of startup-friendly policies and programs.
  • Acceleration Programmes: Offering structured acceleration programs to help startups scale their operations and achieve market readiness.
  • Mentor Exchange Initiatives: Facilitating knowledge sharing and mentorship through exchanges with experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts.
  • Leadership Workshops: Conducting workshops to build leadership skills among startup founders and teams.
  • Startup Showcases: Organising events to showcase innovative startups to potential investors and partners.
  • Investor Connect Platforms: Creating platforms to connect startups with investors, fostering funding opportunities and growth.

Formalisation and Alignment with Broader Initiatives

The partnership was formalised during the launch of Tripura's new innovation and incubation initiatives, which included the inauguration of T-NEST (Tripura Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Startups). T-NEST is positioned as the state's flagship incubation hub, designed to nurture and support budding entrepreneurs. This effort is closely aligned with the New Sector Agnostic Tripura Startup Policy, which aims to create a conducive environment for startups across all industries.

Additionally, the collaboration complements the focus of the Union Budget 2026–2027 on promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing digital infrastructure in the North-East. By integrating local initiatives with national priorities, the partnership seeks to amplify its impact and contribute to regional economic growth.

Statements from Key Officials

Jeya Ragul Geshan B, Director (IT) of DIT and head of Startup Tripura, emphasised the partnership's goal to build founder-centric support systems. He stated that the initiative aims to integrate Tripura's entrepreneurs into national and global networks, providing them with the tools and connections needed to succeed in competitive markets.

Kavikrut, CEO of T-Hub, highlighted the importance of regional ecosystems in shaping India's startup future. He noted that fostering innovation in areas like Tripura is crucial for the next phase of the country's startup growth, as it unlocks untapped potential and drives inclusive development.

This collaboration between T-Hub and the Tripura government represents a proactive step towards creating a vibrant startup ecosystem in the Northeast. By combining resources, expertise, and strategic vision, the partnership is poised to empower entrepreneurs, stimulate job creation, and position Tripura as a key player in India's innovation landscape.
