Defence Stock Up 7% on Equity Issue Date Fix

Shares of a defence sector company surged 7% in early trade on June 29, after the company informed stock exchanges that its board will meet to consider issuing equity shares. The stock opened with a gap up and touched an intraday high of ₹285.50 on the BSE.

Company Fixes Date for Board Meeting

The company, in a regulatory filing, said its board of directors will meet on July 5, 2026, to consider and approve the issuance of equity shares through a preferential allotment or any other mode. The announcement triggered buying interest, pushing the stock to its upper circuit limit.

As per the exchange filing, the company stated: "The meeting of the Board of Directors of the Company is scheduled to be held on July 5, 2026, to consider and approve the issue of equity shares."

Stock Performance

The stock, which had been trading in a range, witnessed a sharp uptick in volume as well. Over 1.2 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE, compared to the two-week average volume of around 30,000 shares. The surge in price and volume indicates strong investor interest in the proposed equity issuance.

The stock has gained over 35% in the past six months, outperforming the broader market. The company is involved in manufacturing defence equipment and has a strong order book from the Indian armed forces.

Market Sentiment

Analysts believe that the proposed equity issue could be aimed at raising funds for expansion or working capital requirements. "The company has been consistently winning orders, and this fundraise could help it scale up operations," said an analyst at a domestic brokerage firm.

The defence sector has been in focus due to the government's push for indigenization and exports. The company's stock has benefited from this trend, along with its strong financial performance.
