Madurai's Rs 190 Crore Goripalayam Flyover Set for February Opening
Madurai Goripalayam Flyover to Open in February

Madurai residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The much-anticipated Goripalayam flyover is on track for a grand opening next month. Officials from the state highways department confirm the inauguration is likely in the second week of February.

A Rs 190 Crore Solution to Traffic Woes

Constructed at a substantial cost of Rs 190 crore, this flyover addresses a long-standing public demand. For years, commuters have faced severe congestion at Goripalayam, one of Madurai's busiest intersections. The new structure promises to streamline traffic flow significantly.

Final Push for Completion

Highways department engineers report that fewer than ten deck slabs remain unfinished. Once these are in place, final touches like lighting installation and painting will begin. A senior official stated, "Finishing works will be completed within ten days after the deck slabs are done."

Chief Engineer K G SathyaPrakash from Chennai conducted a site inspection last Saturday. He urged the team to accelerate the remaining tasks. Although the exact inauguration date awaits announcement, officials assure close monitoring in the coming days.

Connecting Goripalayam and Sellur

The arm linking Goripalayam with Sellur is also nearing completion. This section is expected to open to the public alongside the main flyover in February. This connectivity will provide a major boost to local transportation.

This development follows an earlier announcement by Minister E V Velu. In November, the Minister for Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports indicated the Chief Minister would inaugurate the flyover during Pongal. While that timeline shifted, progress remains steady.

Other Infrastructure Projects Progressing

The highways department highlighted additional projects moving toward completion. One notable example is the 1.1-kilometer Vaigai River North Bank Road. This stretch runs from Kuruvikaran Salai to Anna Nagar Bridge. Its advancement signals broader infrastructure improvements in the region.

Madurai's infrastructure landscape is transforming. The Goripalayam flyover stands as a testament to this change. Residents eagerly await its opening, hoping for smoother daily commutes and reduced travel times across the city.
