Residents in several key wards of Mumbai must brace for a significant disruption in their water supply. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced an extended period of low-pressure water supply lasting 87 hours, from 10 am on December 22 to 1 am on December 26.
Cause of the Water Disruption
The civic body is undertaking essential cross-connection work following the diversion of a major 2400 millimeter diameter Upper Vaitarna main water pipeline. This critical infrastructure activity is linked to the ongoing Metro Line 7A project. BMC officials have emphasized that the work is vital and will be executed in a planned manner adhering to all required standards.
Ward-Wise Schedule and Timings
The impact will be felt across the G North, K East, and H-East administrative wards, with specific areas and timings affected.
G North Ward (Dharavi)
For morning water supply areas like Dharavi Loop Road, A.K.G. Nagar, Jasmine Mill Road, Matunga Kamgar Colony, Sant Rohidas Road, 60 Feet Road, 90 Feet Road, and M.P. Nagar Dhorwada, regular timing from 4 am to 12 pm will see low pressure between 9 am and 5 pm daily from Monday to Thursday.
Evening supply zones, including Dharavi Main Road, Ganesh Mandir Road, Dilip Kadam Road, and Mahim Junction, will experience low pressure from 5 PM to 10:00 PM instead of the usual 4 PM to 9 PM schedule.
K East Ward
Areas such as Kabir Nagar, Bamanwada, Parsiwada, Airport Area, and Tarun Bharat Colony, with regular supply from 2 PM to 5:30 PM, will have low pressure during the same hours. Similarly, Koldongri, Juni Police Galli, Vijay Nagar (Sahar Road), and Mograpada will face low pressure from 5 PM to 10 PM.
H-East Ward (Bandra-Kurla Complex & Others)
In the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Motilal Nagar, low pressure will occur from 10 PM to 11:40 PM daily. A larger set of areas, including Prabhat Colony, Kalina, CST Road, Vidyapeeth, Koliwari Village, Golibar Road, Khar Subway to Kherwadi, and Government Colony Bandra (East), will see low pressure during their usual morning supply window of 3:30 AM to 9 AM from December 23 to 25.
Precautionary Advice for Citizens
The BMC has urgently appealed to citizens in these wards to store necessary water as a precaution and to use water very sparingly throughout the repair period. As an additional safety measure, residents have been advised to boil and filter their water before drinking it for the next few days.
