Amrit Bharat Express to Bridge Dhanbad and Coimbatore, Enhancing East-South Rail Connectivity
In a significant development for India's railway network, officials have announced a proposed plan to operate an Amrit Bharat Express train between Dhanbad in Jharkhand and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. This initiative is expected to substantially improve long-distance rail connectivity between eastern India and the southern states, addressing a long-standing gap in transportation infrastructure.
Major Budget Allocation for Jharkhand's Railway Sector
Akhilesh Mishra, the divisional railway manager (DRM) of Dhanbad railway division, provided insights into the broader context of this project. He revealed that the Union Budget has allocated approximately Rs 7,536 crore to ensure sustained development of the railways sector in Jharkhand. According to Mishra, this allocation represents a major step towards strengthening rail infrastructure and enhancing passenger amenities across the state.
Mishra emphasized that special focus has been placed on critical areas such as track doubling, electrification, and the implementation of the advanced 'Kavach' safety system. These measures are designed to enhance train security and prevent accidents, thereby making rail travel safer and more reliable for passengers.
Benefits of the Proposed Amrit Bharat Express
The introduction of the Amrit Bharat Express is poised to bring multiple advantages to travelers and the region as a whole. Mishra highlighted that this new train service will:
- Enhance passenger convenience by providing a direct and efficient rail link.
- Reduce travel difficulties, particularly for long-distance journeys.
- Strengthen rail connections for key groups such as migrant workers, traders, and students who frequently travel between Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu.
Beyond individual benefits, the train is expected to contribute to regional development by improving overall railway infrastructure in the Dhanbad division. This could spur economic growth and foster better integration between eastern and southern India.
Positive Reactions from Dhanbad Residents
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from residents of Dhanbad, who view it as a long-awaited and beneficial move. Santosh Singh, a director at a real estate company, expressed his satisfaction, noting that after a considerable period, Dhanbad will finally have direct rail connectivity to South India. He believes this will not only benefit the people of Dhanbad but also those in nearby districts, facilitating easier travel and business opportunities.
Richa Prasad, a student at Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University, shared a personal perspective. With her sister residing in Coimbatore, she anticipates that the Amrit Bharat Express will significantly reduce travel time by offering direct access, making family visits more convenient and less time-consuming.
Kishore Mahto, a labourer working in Coimbatore, pointed out the practical advantages for workers from the region. He mentioned that affordable fares and timely travel schedules will be particularly helpful for over 100 labourers from Dhanbad and surrounding areas, easing their commute and improving their quality of life.
Overall, the proposed Amrit Bharat Express train represents a forward-looking initiative that aligns with broader efforts to modernize India's railway network. By connecting Dhanbad and Coimbatore, it promises to enhance connectivity, support regional development, and provide tangible benefits to a diverse range of passengers, from students and workers to traders and families.
