Passengers traveling between Bengaluru and Andhra Pradesh can finally expect a much faster journey. South Western Railways has confirmed that the long-awaited speed upgrade on the Yelahanka to Dharmavaram stretch will be finished by March.
Key Corridor Gets a Major Boost
The 161-kilometer corridor connects Yelahanka in north Bengaluru to Dharmavaram in southern Andhra Pradesh. Once completed, trains will be able to run at speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour. This upgrade is particularly significant for high-occupancy trains like the Yeswantpur–Kacheguda Vande Bharat Express.
Relief for Commuters and Enhanced Connectivity
For years, passengers have voiced their frustration over slow travel times on this route. The new speed limit will cut down travel duration, offering a smoother and more efficient ride. It will also allow superfast trains to operate at their maximum potential, reducing delays and improving overall service.
The Bengaluru-Jolarpettai section already supports 130 kmph speeds, setting a precedent for this expansion. South Western Railways is not stopping here. They have additional plans to upgrade other critical sections later this year.
Future Upgrades on the Horizon
SWR officials have outlined further improvements to maintain consistent high-speed travel. Two more stretches are slated for upgrades to support 130 kmph:
- Between KSR Bengaluru and Sampige Road
- From Chikkabanavara to Hassan
These enhancements aim to create a seamless high-speed network, boosting regional connectivity and supporting economic growth. The March deadline for the Yelahanka-Dharmavaram section marks a crucial step in this broader initiative.
