Cholan Express First Stop at Thiruverumbur Station in Trichy

In a significant development for the residents of Trichy, the Chennai Egmore - Trichy - Chennai Egmore Cholan Express made its maiden halt at Thiruverumbur railway station on Monday. This move fulfills a long-pending demand from the local community, marking a historic moment for railway connectivity in the region.

A Welcome Stop for Commuters and Industries

The Cholan Express from Trichy to Chennai arrived at Thiruverumbur station at 12.30 pm, where it was warmly welcomed by MDMK members. They showered flowers on the train and distributed sweets to passengers, celebrating this new addition to the station's services.

Sustained Efforts Yield Results

Speaking to reporters, Trichy MP Durai Vaiko highlighted that this achievement is the result of sustained representations made over the past year. He emphasized the importance of Thiruverumbur as a central part of Trichy, noting its significance for industries, educational institutions, and a large workforce.

Historical Context and Current Impact

Durai Vaiko explained that before the Covid-19 pandemic, various express trains used to stop at Thiruverumbur. However, post-pandemic, approximately 90% of these trains ceased their halts, causing inconvenience to many. After meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, efforts were successful in securing a stop for the Cholan Express at this station.

Future Plans for Enhanced Facilities

The MP added that arrangements are being made to establish battery car facilities at the station to improve accessibility for passengers. Furthermore, he assured that continuous efforts will be taken to secure stoppages for more trains at Thiruverumbur, aiming to restore and enhance the station's connectivity to pre-pandemic levels and beyond.

This development is expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, students, and workers in the area, fostering economic growth and convenience.
