Japanese Delegation from Yamanashi Prefecture Explores Investment Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh
A high-level Japanese delegation from Yamanashi Prefecture is currently on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh, aiming to explore significant investment and collaboration opportunities across various key sectors. The delegation convened detailed discussions with state officials in Lucknow on Wednesday, marking a pivotal step in strengthening bilateral ties.
Strengthening India-Japan Cooperation
The visit has been meticulously coordinated by Invest UP, the state's investment promotion agency, with the primary objective of enhancing investment relations between Yamanashi Prefecture and Uttar Pradesh. This initiative is part of a broader effort to deepen India–Japan cooperation in critical areas such as green hydrogen, renewable energy, infrastructure development, tourism, and hospitality services.
An official spokesperson highlighted that on the first day of the visit, the delegation engaged in productive discussions with the energy department and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). These talks focused on advancing cooperation in clean energy and sustainable development, aligning with global environmental goals.
Key Participants and Discussions
The Yamanashi delegation included notable figures such as Narendra Upadhyay, an advisor to the Prefectural government, along with representatives from Kanadevia Corporation and Kinki Nippon Tourist Company. During the interaction, they shared valuable perspectives and insights on potential collaborative ventures.
On the Uttar Pradesh side, Additional Chief Secretary for Energy, Additional Energy Sources, and Technical Education, Narendra Bhooshan, along with UPNEDA Director Inderjeet Singh, presented the state's comprehensive green energy roadmap. This presentation placed a special emphasis on green hydrogen initiatives, showcasing Uttar Pradesh's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Vision for Collaboration and Future Projects
The spokesperson elaborated that the Yamanashi delegation outlined a clear vision for collaboration, proposing that Yamanashi Prefecture would contribute advanced technological know-how. Meanwhile, Kanadevia Corporation would bring specialized expertise in green hydrogen production, including technology transfer and technical support to facilitate local development.
Furthermore, the delegation expressed keen interest in the Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy 2024, which encompasses pilot projects, enabling infrastructure, and an investor-friendly framework designed to attract global partnerships. Detailed discussions also took place regarding two proposed Centres of Excellence, to be led by IIT-BHU and IIT Kanpur, highlighting the potential for academic and research collaboration in these cutting-edge fields.
This visit underscores the growing economic and strategic partnership between India and Japan, with Uttar Pradesh emerging as a key player in fostering international investment and technological exchange.
