RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Stresses India's Sovereignty in Trade Negotiations
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat asserted on Saturday that India must conduct its trade deals strictly on its own terms and conditions, without succumbing to external pressures or being swayed by tariff considerations. His remarks come at a pivotal moment as India advances toward finalizing a significant bilateral trade pact, highlighting a firm stance on maintaining national autonomy in international economic engagements.
Bhagwat's Vision for India's Global Role
Speaking at the "Vyakhaynmanal – 100 years of Sangh Journey" lecture series in Mumbai, held to commemorate the RSS's centenary, Bhagwat articulated a clear philosophy. "We cannot isolate ourselves from the world, but any deal should be on our terms and conditions. We will not proceed under anybody's pressure nor be driven solely by tariffs," he declared. This event, part of a series outlining the organization's past, present, and future, drew attention to India's strategic approach in global trade dynamics.
Distinguishing RSS from Political Affiliations
In his address, Bhagwat took the opportunity to clarify the relationship between the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "Often, people claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the RSS. While it is true that he is a swayamsevak, the RSS and BJP are distinct entities. The RSS does not control the BJP remotely," he explained, emphasizing the organizational independence despite shared ideological roots.
Embracing Inclusivity and National Unity
Reflecting on the RSS's foundational principles, Bhagwat highlighted its mission to foster Hindu consolidation with the goal of national glory, but in an inclusive manner. "When we refer to Hindu, it encompasses all, including those of different religions and worship practices. Muslims and Christians are also part of this way of life, which transcends sectarian boundaries," he stated. He advocated for unity in diversity, urging collective efforts toward nationalism without confrontation.
Event Highlights and Attendees
The lecture, held in two sessions, attracted a diverse audience of prominent figures from various sectors. Notable attendees included Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, actor and MP Hema Malini, filmmaker Subhash Ghai, film producer Ronnie Screwvala, and businessman Sajjan Jindal, underscoring the broad appeal and significance of the RSS's centenary celebrations.
