Shankh Air Eyes March 2026 Launch, Aims for International Flights by 2029
Shankh Air Targets March Launch, International Flights by 2029

India's aviation sector is set to welcome a new player, Shankh Air, which is preparing for takeoff in the coming months. The airline's founder has announced a clear roadmap, targeting a domestic launch in early 2026 with ambitions to spread its wings internationally before the end of the decade.

March 2026: The Planned Domestic Debut

Shankh Air is firmly on course to commence operations in the first quarter of 2026, with its inaugural flight expected around March. The airline's Chairman, Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma, confirmed the timeline, marking a significant step for the new carrier. Shankh Air has successfully secured a crucial no-objection certificate (NOC) from India's Union Aviation Ministry, a vital regulatory green light. It shares this early-stage approval with two other aspiring airlines, Al Hind Air and FlyExpress.

The airline's primary mission is to enhance regional and interstate connectivity within India. By focusing on these routes, Shankh Air aims to bridge gaps in the country's air network, making travel more convenient for passengers in smaller cities and towns.

Fleet Strategy and International Ambitions

Shankh Air will begin its journey with a modest but strategic fleet. The initial rollout will feature three Airbus A320 aircraft, which are currently stationed in Bulgaria. To support its growing network and demand, the airline plans to add two more planes by July or August 2026. Vishwakarma emphasized that this fleet expansion is critical for the airline's long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.

Looking beyond domestic skies, the airline has set an ambitious target to commence international operations by 2028 or 2029. This phased approach allows Shankh Air to first establish a strong domestic foundation before venturing into competitive international markets.

Vision: Affordable Air Travel for the Indian Middle Class

At the heart of Shankh Air's business model is a commitment to serving India's vast middle-class population. The airline explicitly aims to make air travel more affordable and accessible. Its goal is to transform flying from a luxury or occasional expense into a routine mode of transport for the general public.

By offering competitive pricing and focusing on connectivity to underserved regions, Shankh Air hopes to stimulate demand and democratize air travel across the nation. This customer-centric vision positions it as a potential key contributor to India's growing aviation story.
