The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has officially issued the notification for the 72nd Combined Preliminary Competitive Examination (CCE) 2026, inviting applications for recruitment across various state departments. The notification, released on May 5, 2026, confirms that online applications will be accepted from May 7, 2026, until May 31, 2026, for eligible graduate candidates.

Initially, the total number of vacancies was set at 1,230, but after a corrigendum, 44 posts of Sugarcane Officer were withdrawn and reassigned under separate recruitment rules. Consequently, the revised vacancy count now stands at 1,186 posts.

Application Fee and Process

Candidates can apply online through the official BPSC website. The application fee is Rs. 100 for all categories. Candidates without an Aadhaar card must pay an additional biometric charge of Rs. 200.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university. For specific posts like Financial Administrative Officer, a background in commerce, mathematics, statistics, or economics is required. The age limit as of August 1, 2026, is 20 to 37 years for general male candidates, 40 years for women and backward classes, and 42 years for SC/ST categories.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

The selection will be conducted in two stages: a preliminary test and a main examination followed by an interview. The preliminary test comprises 150 objective questions with a duration of two hours. There is a negative marking of one-third mark for each wrong answer. Candidates must mark unattempted questions as mandatory. Shortlisting for the main examination will be done at ten times the number of vacancies.

The main examination includes a General Hindi qualifying paper, two General Studies papers, an essay paper, and an optional subject MCQ. Marks from the optional section are not counted for merit in the overall list.
