CBSE Unveils Two-Board Examination Scheme for Class 10 Students

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced a new Two Board Examination Scheme for Class X students, set to be implemented starting from the 2026 examination cycle. This innovative scheme, which was formally notified on June 25, 2025, aims to provide students with an additional opportunity to enhance their academic performance.

Eligibility and Application Process for Second Board Exams

Under this scheme, Class 10 students who appear in the main board exams in 2026 will be granted a second chance to improve their results in up to three subjects during the Second Board Examinations scheduled for May 2026. CBSE has issued specific guidelines for private candidates wishing to participate in these exams.

Eligibility Criteria: The scheme targets specific categories of candidates, including those from the 2024-25 academic year placed in the Compartment category. Additionally, candidates from the same year who are eligible for exams other than Compartment but did not appear in the main 2026 examinations will be considered under the third-chance compartment category.

Online Application Details: Applications for the Second Board Examination must be submitted exclusively through the online mode via the official CBSE website. Offline form submissions are strictly prohibited, and payments must be made online using methods such as net banking, debit cards, or credit cards. Applications without fee payment or those submitted late will be automatically disqualified.

Examination Schedule and Fee Structure

The submission process for the List of Candidates (LOC) along with fees is divided into two stages:

  • First Stage: April 16, 2026 (12 noon) to April 20, 2026 (midnight)
  • Second Stage: April 21, 2026 to April 22, 2026 (midnight)

Applicants are encouraged to submit during the first stage to avoid additional costs. The examination will follow the same syllabus as the first board exam to ensure uniformity in evaluation.

Fee Details: Fees vary based on candidate category and location:

  • India: Regular fee is Rs. 320 per subject, with an approximate total of Rs. 1100 per candidate per subject.
  • Nepal and other countries: Rs. 2200 per candidate per subject.
  • Late fee penalty: An extra Rs. 2000 per candidate in addition to the regular fee.

Compliance and Digital Procedures

CBSE has implemented stringent compliance rules to maintain integrity in the process. False data or inaccuracies in applications will lead to disqualification and forfeiture of fees. Unfair practices may result in punitive measures, and candidates are solely responsible for forms filled through cyber cafes or intermediaries.

Digital-First Approach: The entire application process is online, with no requirement for hard copy submissions. Candidates can download their submitted forms for personal records, and photo and signature uploads must be in JPG format under 40 KB. Key safeguards include the availability of only auto-generated subjects for selection and the necessity for correct subject codes, particularly for languages.

CBSE has emphasized that eligibility is contingent upon fulfilling all norms, even after fee payment, and applications without successful fee submission will be cancelled without notice. Students must also carefully choose their examination city, as changes are not permitted after submission.
